ABA Therapy
Evidence-based learning and play.
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy is an individualized, trauma-informed, and an evidence-based service designed to help children build functional skills that support independence and daily success. Services are tailored to each child’s strengths and needs, with a focus on communication, social, adaptive, and self-regulation skills in collaboration with the family. Emphasis is placed on positive, supportive relationships and data-driven strategies to promote meaningful and lasting progress.
What is the goal of applied behaviour analysis (ABA)?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy is to improve an individual’s overall quality of life by teaching meaningful, functional skills that increase independence and participation across daily environments. Through individualized, data-driven intervention and collaboration with caregivers. Additionally, ABA focuses on helping skills generalize beyond therapy sessions so they can be maintained over time.
Understanding ABA therapy and its purpose.
-
Applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapy is a scientific approach to understanding behaviour and how it is influenced by each environment. It involves systematically applying interventions based on principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviours. It is a widely recognized and respected method for helping individuals achieve meaningful behavioural change.

-
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy is used to support children who demonstrate skill deficits and/or behaviours that interfere with learning, functional communication, social participation, or daily living. It is commonly applied when a child requires structured, individualized, and measurable interventions to promote meaningful behaviour change across environments such as home, school, and community settings.
-
Due to the nature of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapy, having a quiet space to emphasize focus on instruction is essential for providing well rounded services. Our new dedicated ABA space features multiple session rooms, office area, and a bathroom to maximize our service capabilities.
In addition to this space, as needed, our ABA sessions sometimes extend into safe public spaces outside of our centre.
-
Although ABA is a widely used and respected approach to establishing meaningful behaviour change in individuals, it does present some risks. ABA is not effective for everyone; some individuals do not benefit from ABA. Other individuals may show slow and minimal progress.

What does our comprehensive ABA Therapy look like?
Frequently asked questions about our ABA therapy.
-
Yes, our ABA therapy service is eligible to be covered by OAP funding.
-
ABA therapy can be appropriate across a wide range of ages, depending on the participant’s needs, goals, and learning profile.
ABA therapy is most commonly associated with early childhood, as early intervention can support the development of communication, social, self-help, and learning skills. However, ABA is not limited to young children. It can also be effective for school-aged children, adolescents, and even adults when services are individualized and goals are developmentally and contextually appropriate.
The appropriateness of ABA therapy is determined less by age and more by whether a participant benefits from structured, skill-based, and measurable supports to address challenges that impact learning, independence, social participation, or daily functioning.
-
Every participant in ABA therapy services learn and acquire skills at varying paces. As such, we cannot guarantee results. However, we have found that over a full year of ABA therapy, many participants are often ahead in particular skills with some even have mastered particular skills.
-
Depending on a client’s goals, sessions can occur in various locations. They can be in a classroom, in a one-to-one environment, or out in the community.
Sessions always involve time for the therapist and the client to build rapport. Also, there is time where the participant is working towards new skills (how skills are taught are individualized for every child; learning should be fun so learning activities are tailored to incorporate a child’s interests and preferred ways of learning).
Most sessions also involve time where the therapist and participant review previously learned skills and help maintain and generalize skills.
-
Goals are created in collaboration with family members of the participant, the clinical team, and the participant as much as possible. Every participant has different needs and every family has different values and goals.
Progress is measured through various data collection methods that are reviewed by the clinic team.
