March Break Camp
Threads that connect all of us.
This is a relationship-centred camp designed to support children in building connection, emotional safety, and a sense of belonging during the March break. The camp emphasizes regulation, choice, and gentle social learning through consistent routines and flexible participation. Using creative, metaphor-based activities, the program supports emotional regulation, social awareness, and self-advocacy while prioritizing connection and trust over performance.
Day 1 - My Thread
The day is about helping everyone feel safe, seen, and valued in the space. It supports self-expression and a sense of belonging while encouraging awareness of personal needs and comforts. The focus is on building confidence to communicate preferences and seek support in simple, respectful ways.
Day 2 - Shared Threads
The day focuses on finding shared experiences and building gentle connections with others. Participants are supported in noticing similarities and feeling comfortable being alongside others without pressure to interact. The emphasis is on connection that feels natural, respectful, and unforced.
Day 3 - Tangled Threads
The day acknowledges that big feelings and hard moments are a natural part of being together. Participants are supported in recognizing emotions and understanding that connection can continue even during conflict or dysregulation. The focus is on safety, repair, and reassurance that relationships remain intact through challenges.
Day 4 - Repairing Threads
The day centers on repairing and rebuilding connection after difficult moments. Participants are supported in exploring flexible ways to reconnect and accept support without shame. The emphasis is on reassurance, cooperation, and the understanding that relationships can be restored and strengthened.
Day 5 - Our Community Thread
The day focuses on belonging, closure, and celebrating being part of the community. Participants are supported in recognizing their place within the group in ways that feel safe and affirming. The emphasis is on gentle celebration, shared connection, and positive transition forward.
Understanding this camp and its purpose.
-
This camp was developed by our team consisting of an RSW, CYC-P, and RECE. The idea behind its theme was to help build connection for our participants with the world around them. The light approach allows flexibility in delivery across different age groups.
-
This camp is designed for participants who benefit from a supportive environment that values connection, emotional safety, and flexibility.
It is well suited for children who may find traditional camps overwhelming and who benefit from predictable routines, choice-based participation, and gentle social learning.
-
Our camps are held in the very same pod as our Skills4Success program. The layout of the pod is structured to allow for a highly flexible learning environment. The area is broken down into:
Desk Zone: strategically shaped in a “u” shape, this area is the designated working location for clients to develop their academic skills.
JASPER Stations: specifically setup as multiple breakout stations, all with different toys and activities to promote peer collaboration, creative play, and gross motor skill development.
Library Room: a semi-quiet working area and reading room that is attached to the pod to give opportunities for one-on-one academic support.
Sensory Room: a fully customized room designed to allow children to desensitize from the group environment and manage emotions.
-
While March Break Camp is designed to be supportive, engaging, and fun, it is still a group-based environment and may include periods of noise, movement, and shared activity. Although staff prioritize regulation, choice, and emotional safety, we cannot guarantee that all situations will be calm or predictable at all times. Participation, engagement, and individual experiences may vary, and not all children will respond to the camp environment in the same way.
